  • Fifth Annual Mountain Maryland Dragon Boat Festival

    Broadford Lake 120 Recreation Ln off Rt. 135 in Mt. Lake Park, Mountain Lake Park, MD, United States

    Broadford Lake will come alive with the sounds of plunging paddles on Saturday, August 22, for the Fifth Annual Mountain Maryland Dragon Boat Festival. Dove Center will be partnering with Dynamic Dragon Boat Racing from Tennessee to hold this exciting event. Proceeds will benefit the Dove Center in providing services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related crimes. Dragon boats of 46 feet long, holding teams of 20 paddlers, plus a drummer and a steerer, will race a course of approximately 200 meters, in heats of up to 3 boats. A new addition to this year’s race is the option of 10-person boats. Times from the first two heats will be averaged to determine which teams move on to the championship race. Individuals of any skill and experience level are encouraged to participate, and community members, agencies and businesses are invited to put together their own teams. Teams will have the opportunity to practice together with the guidance of professionals the week before the event, at a designated time.
