(Pets, under control of owner and on a leash, are allowed in Maryland State Parks. We merely control the places and areas where pets are permitted)
DEEP CREEK LAKE STATE PARK - Permitted on hiking trails ONLY and on a leash
HERRINGTON MANOR STATE PARK
Not permitted in the cabin area at any time, including roadways trough cabins.
Allowed on a leash, ONLY on trails, and in Day-Use area
SWALLOW FALLS STATE PARK
Allowed in camping area on a leash
Allowed ONLY on trails on a leash
EXCEPT- Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day
NEW GERMANY STATE PARK - Pets NOT permitted at all
BIG RUN STATE PARK – Pets permitted on a leash and under the control of their owners
CASSELMAN RIVER BRIDGE STATE PARK
Pets permitted on a leash and under control of their owners
POTOMAC / GARRETT STATE FOREST
Pets are allowed. No leash is required as long as the animals are under reasonable
Control. Example: No jumping on other people or bothering people in camping areas, etc
SAVAGE RIVER STATE FOREST
Pets are permitted on a leash
· Service Dogs are the ONLY exception
Garrett County has a ‘Leash Law’
** If you wish to take your dog for a swim, a suggestion would be to drive North to the end of State Park Road, toward Rock Lodge Road. There is a pull off area to park and you can walk your dog down to the shoreline to swim in Deep Creek Lake.
