Construction
at the Roth Rock wind project was halted last month by the Maryland
Department of the Environment. The stop work order was issued
until the site meets the requirements of the approved sediment and
erosion plan. Windmills under construction are shown from
Broadford Lake and near Southern Middle School/Broad Ford Elementary.
Crews have demolished the side of the American Legion
building in Oakland that was damaged by fire.
Site excavation and clearing has been completed on
the site of a new animal adoption center on Bumble Bee Road. The
facility is being built and operated by the
HART for Animals organization.
Construction continues on the $3 million,
30,000 square foot exhibit hall at the Garrett County fairgrounds.
Construction continues on a new transportation
museum along Liberty Street in Oakland. The project is headed by
the Garrett County Historical Society.
Construction
has begun on the new Garrett College Community Athletic & Recreation Center (CARC).
Phase I -- a 32,000 square foot
aquatic center with two pools, a fitness center and physical therapy
facility -- is expected to be complete by September 1, 2011.
Site
prep continues at the site of a new Clear Mountain Bank on Rt. 219 in
Oakland. An access road is also being
constructed on this property that will connect Rt. 219 and North Fourth
Street. The road will also provided easier access to the
commercial sites. The location previously housed the Garrett
County Roads Department before they relocated to a new building on Rt.
135.
Deep Creek
Fitness is now open in the Market Square Plaza next to Foodland.
A new Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour is now open at Wisp. This is the first challenge course canopy
tour of it's kind in the Deep Creek area offering amazing tree-top
views, agility challenges and 5 breathtaking zips from 180 ft to over
400 ft!
The Creamery Grill is now in place on the lot beside
the Lakeside Creamery. The grill will be operated by
Pine Lodge Steakhouse.
The Point View Inn is no more. Crews are doing
final grading of the land. No word on the future plans for the property,
although it is on the
market for sale.
